Argyle West Elementary crossing

Hi guys, Patricia here, wondering what options we have that could help with the intersection of Old Justin Road and Treeline/Sunflower for drop off and pick up for Argyle west elementary school. Maybe crosswalk striping to go over the decorative brick to make the crosswalks more visible? Maybe designate just one crosswalk of ojr instead of at both treeline and sunflower? Thoughts?

Hi All,

I just witnessed a kindergartener nearly get hit crossing Old Justin RD (OJR) at Treeline.   A Chevy Colorado was turned around at OJR and Sunflower by the ISD Police for cutting the line.  The motorist then sped westbound on OJR with no regard for the stop sign at Treeline.  Simultaneously, a child was just about to cross the OJR.  Just as the speeding truck flew through the intersection the parent pulled the child back.  Chief Collins was looking the other direction so he did not see.

I spoke to Chief Collins for several minutes after the morning student drop off and invited him to speak at the next board meeting.

Also, in the afternoons I speak with a number of parents who also provide their insight and recommendations.

I will present these to the board at our next meeting for consideration.

This is a pressing safety concern for the district's school children that we will need to remedy with decisive and potentially drastic action.

Matt

Thanks Matt! Have you already invited principal funderburg to the next board meeting as well? Or would you like me to do so? Thanks!

We exchanged emails on Monday.  I did not invite her to the board meeting for two reasons.  First, our conversation was somewhat limited because we only discussed cross walk markings.  Second, I did not think at the time that our email exchange would incline her to attend a board meeting simply to restate the obvious.  That was just my take on the matter.  Chief Collins has accepted the invitation to provide his observations, assessment and any recommendations for OJD and the school zone in general.  I recommend we extend an invitation to Principal Funderburg as well.  I will do that tomorrow if you have not done it already.

Hi Patricia,

Principal Funderburg said she would do her best to be there.

It sounds like the traffic study may be available for our November meeting. Matt would you like to invite Principal Funderburg and Chief Collins to hear proposed ideas before making a decision? Thanks!

I recommend giving her a copy of the study well in advance of the next board meeting is important.  Then she can decide if she wants to discuss it any further with us and the engineer.

That makes sense! I can plan on sending it to her when we have it! Thanks,
